What’s more important: the security of America’s seniors or the security of the second most corrupt government on earth? The House of Representatives recently passed another $33 billion to fund the war in Afghanistan. They are adding it to the largest defense budget in the history of the United States – a budget that the administration is committed to growing every year. Republican House Minority leader Rep. John Boehner (R-OH) believes that “ensuring there’s enough money to pay for the war will require reforming the country’s entitlement system” and recommends that Congress begin cutting social security by raising the retirement age to 70. President Obama needs to know that Americans believe it is time to reign in the runaway train of military spending – NOT cut social security. We can begin by bringing our men and women in uniform home from Afghanistan. And standing up to right-wing politicians who continue to push for more red ink to prop up a corrupt regime in Afghanistan and while cutting support for American seniors here at home. |
