This week the Senate is expected to vote on another $33 billion to fund the war in Afghanistan and the latest surge of troops already underway. With no end for the war in sight and mounting evidence that the surge is failing, it’s time for Congress to end this war.
There are 2 things every Senator must do:
1. Vote NO on HR 4899, the Supplemental Appropriation
The most powerful tool Members of Congress have to end the war is their power of the purse. By voting NO on the Emergency Supplemental Senators can not only send a powerful message that it’s time to end the war, they can stop the escalation dead in its tracks and force the administration to change course.
2. Vote YES on Senator Feingold’s Timeline for Withdrawal Amendment, no. 4204
President Obama himself has said we need an exit strategy, and has committed to beginning the withdrawal of troops in the summer of 2011. But without a clear strategy guiding our military presence there, the Pentagon is doing all they can to continue the fight. Sen. Feingold’s amendment will force the Pentagon to focus on ending, not escalating, this war and start planning to make that happen.
ACT NOW and tell your Senators “No blank check” for the war in Afghanistan.
